Car registration, inspection deadlines extended again

The state’s Department of Transportation is again extending driver’s license renewal and other vehicle-related tasks as coronavirus precautions continue.

The department announced Tuesday that expiration dates for vehicle registrations and safety and emission inspections will be extended for Pennsylvania residents until June 30, including vehicles scheduled to expire between March 16 and May 31, along with a number of other extensions originally announced in mid-March.

This suspension of vehicle registrations extends to all vehicle classes, including mass transit vehicle registrations, apportioned vehicle registrations, fleet vehicle registrations, dealer plate registrations, temporary registrations and biennial farm exemption certificates.

Tuesday’s announcement follows the department’s May 1 extension of driver’s licenses, identification cards and learner’s permits scheduled to expire between March 16 and May 31. The department originally extended these renewals in mid-March after the outbreak of the virus forced driver’s license centers to close.

Also, drivers with “Disabilities” parking placards scheduled to expire during that same time period are extended to the end of June.

Various transactions are available at dmv.pa.gov at no additional fee.
