S. Butler to appeal some valuations
JEFFERSON TWP — The South Butler School District decided to appeal a portion of the tax reassessments, which would account for about $30,000 in local tax revenue.
The director of business affairs, Paul Slomer, said that the district will appeal the reassessments on four properties, which accounts for about $30,000. He did not immediately identify which properties those were.
District solicitor Tom May said in November that the county had hearings before the Tax Assessment Appeals Board for several months.
The reassessments affected 11 properties, with a potential cost of $53,000 to the district, in Clinton Township, Jefferson Township and Saxonburg.
Slomer explained that the district decided to appeal only four properties.
“There were some properties where the assessments were reasonable to what they were before,” he said.
Of the initial 11 properties, the most significant loss to the district would be the reassessment of the Bayer facility, 150 Victory Road. When reassessed, it cost more than $17,000 in local tax revenue.
The reassessment of the Gulf Coast Partners, 1000 John Roebling Way, would cost more than $9,500 in tax revenue.
Slomer did not confirm which of the 11 reassessments would be appealed.
At the school board meeting Wednesday evening, members voted 7-0 to approve an agreement with Nickolas King McConahy and Company for appraisal services, which relate to the assessment appeals. The services should not exceed $7,700.
