CENTER TWP — The bogus snow forecast last Sunday caused First Church Crossfire to cancel services, then a major water main break on Wednesday caused another cancellation Sunday.

The Rev. David Janz, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Crossfire's parent church, said the water company called Wednesday morning to say the water would be shut off at the church at the intersection of North Main Street Extension and Mercer Road due to a broken main line behind the building.

“The parking lot was a glaze of ice,” Janz said.

Church officials are waiting for crews from Pennsylvania One Call to come and mark the lines so the contractor, who has already been hired, will know where to dig.

Janz said the 350 to 400 congregation members who normally worship at Crossfire's Sunday service attended one of four other services offered at the main church on East North Street and the Connection Center, another branch on North Street.

“We didn't feel it was a good thing to bring that many people in without water or bathroom facilities,” Janz said.

He hopes to have the problem fixed by next Sunday.
