Alameda Park's pool, water slides open for season

Swimmers of all ages can now enjoy Alameda Waterpark.

The pool and water park on Alameda Road opens Wednesday with limited capacity.

Lance Welliver, county parks and recreation director, said fewer people will be admitted into the water park each day, but would not divulge how many.

“Once we get to that number, we will cut off entry and wait for people to exit to let more people in,” Welliver said.

Those who come to the water park are encouraged to wear masks when not in the pool, practice social distancing and bring their own lawn chairs.

Welliver said normally, 100 deck chairs are available for patrons, but sanitizing that number of chairs between uses would be impossible.

Common areas will be frequently sanitized during water park hours, Welliver said.

The concession stand will have a limited menu, and Welliver reminds patrons that the policy to prohibit outside food and drink will continue.

He said the decision to open the water park July 1 was made before the pool's intended opening date of May 30.

Water park rates of $6 per person and half off after 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday will remain the same this year.

Several specials — such as half off on Thursdays for children younger than 12, half off for wearing red, white and blue on July 4, and $20 for a family of up to five on Sundays — remain in effect.

Welliver said no season passes will be sold this year, but the 10-punch pass will be available.

He stressed that holders of the 10-punch pass will not have an advantage regarding entry.

The water park is open from 12:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily, weather permitting.
