Man accused in fracas at ex-wife's home
A man is accused of assaulting his ex-wife, her boyfriend and a third person after breaking into her house in Butler.
David J. Randall, 47, of Butler was arrested shortly after the incident early Sunday morning on the 400 block of Franklin Street.
He was arraigned on a felony charge of burglary and three misdemeanor counts of simple assault. He remains free on $10,000 bail.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m., police were called to the house for a reported domestic dispute. Officers could still hear yelling when they got there.
They found Randall and Michael Robinson fighting on the floor upstairs, according to court documents. Also in the house was Jennifer Randall and Shanna Randall.
The defendant and Jennifer Randall, 45, filed for divorce in September 2017 and obtained a divorce decree five months later, court records showed.
Jennifer lives with the 45-year-old Robinson, police said. The relationship between the divorced couple and Shanna Randall, 21, of Butler, was not indicated in documents.
Police were told that the defendant walked through the front door of his former wife's home and stated, “I'm here to check on my family.”
Randall went upstairs and allegedly punched a bedroom door, damaging it. When Jennifer opened the door, documents said, he pushed her out of the way and “started to attack” Robinson.
Jennifer and Shanna, who is pregnant, police said, tried to break up the fighting men. Randall is accused of shoving Shanna.
Robinson, who was bleeding from the nose, told officers that he held Randall down “in self-defense” until they got there.
Police said the defendant appeared “highly intoxicated.”
Randall's preliminary hearing is set March 5.
