Canadian company buys Altmire Trucking

Altmire Trucking on Route 38 North in Cherry Valley has been purchased by a Canadian tanker company.

Tank Carrier Services of Ontario will keep Altmire's flatbed trucking and truck repair business and add bays where Tank Carrier's stainless steel tank trailers will be washed.

Construction of the four wash bays is ongoing, and David Faoro, general manager at Tank Carrier Services, hopes the facility will be complete by the end of the year.

Faoro said about 10 drivers per day will hop off Interstate 80 after each delivery and drive into the wash bay to have their tanks cleaned inside and out before the next delivery.

He said the facility, which is near the northern border of the county near Emlenton, was an excellent fit for his company.

“It already had an eight-bay garage on site, and we had a need for a facility to wash our tank equipment and that would also be our main terminal for Western Pennsylvania,” Faoro said.

He said Altmire Repair will retain its name even though it was purchased by Tank Carrier Services and will serve as the repair facility for the tank trailers as well.

“We've made them a really busy place,” Faoro said.

Between the flatbed and tank trailer trucks, about 30 drivers will be employed at the facility, he said.

Faoro is excited to begin operations at the new property.

“It already had a working shop with employees and was fully staffed and equipped,” he said. “Rather than building a shop, we can go into a working concern.”

Tank Carrier Services hauls mostly wax products, many of them originating at a wax refinery in Smethport, McKean County.

The company, which has additional drivers based in California, Wisconsin and Texas, also hauls liquids for companies such as Sonneborn and Calumet.

No hazardous materials are hauled by Tank Carrier Services.

“That's just something we have tried to stay away from,” Faoro said.

The Cherry Valley facility and another terminal north of Toronto will boast a combined 100 steel tankers and 20 flatbed trailers.

The latter will haul mostly wood, shingles and metals, as has been the practice of Altmire Trucking for several years.

Faoro said working with county officials and Joe Saeler of the county Community Development Corporation made the transaction seamless.

“Everyone has been really good to work with and really supportive,” Faoro said. “Joe has been very helpful, and the county has been very helpful in putting this thing together.”

Saeler called the transaction a win for Butler County.

“We are extremely excited in Butler County to have them come to the area, and we look forward to working with them,” Saeler said.
