8:50 p.m. Saturday — Daniel J. Varljen, 45, of Butler was arrested after allegedly assaulting 53-year-old Linda G. Sowash of Butler at a home in the 1100 block of Bonniebrook Road in Oakland Township. Police said Sowash suffered facial injuries including a cut lip.Varljen, who is charged with simple assault, was placed in the Butler County Prison.2 a.m. Saturday — Michael Frederick, no age given, of Evans City allegedly violated Wendy Frederick's protection from abuse order at her home on Margaret Avenue in Forward Township. Police said Michael Frederick faces a charge of indirect criminal contempt.9:46 p.m. Friday — Jason Spangler, 26, of Elkhorn City, Ky., was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Hansen Avenue and New Castle Street in Butler.10:32 a.m. Jan. 26 — Police cited PNC Bank after the eight false alarms in the 12 months at its Clearview Mall branch in Center Township.1:20 p.m. Jan. 25 — A pickup truck driven by Jeremy H. Fleeger, 50, of Worthington, Armstrong County, struck a snow plow on Route 422 just west of Mitchell Hill Road in Summit Township. Fleeger hit the vehicle as he tried passing it and a second truck that were both plowing snow. Police cited him for driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.Matthew J. Roman, 49, of Evans City was driving the plow that was hit.11:25 p.m. Jan. 24 — A car driven by Eric P. Hepfl, 47, of Kittanning struck a deer on Route 422 west of McGrady Road in Clearfield Township. Hepfl was not hurt but his car had to be towed away.5:47 a.m. Jan. 13 — Vehicles driven by Jonathan K. Willyard, 22, of Worthington and Zachary D. Kepple, 18, of Butler collided on Clearfield Road east of Sasse Road in Winfield Township. No injuries were reported but Willyard's car was towed from the scene. Police cited him for driving too fast for conditions.

12:22 a.m. Sunday — Kenneth Moore, 21, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 at the West Kittanning exit in East Franklin Township.Police said Moore's passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both of Kittanning, were intoxicated. The older boy also was found with suspected marijuana and a smoking pipe.Charges against the youths in juvenile court are pending police crime lab tests.8:51 a.m. Friday — Bridget M. Galli, 50, of Ford City was hurt when she lost control of her car on slush and crashed into a snowy embankment and a large steel-wire fence on Pyrra Road just north of Veaman Hill Road in Plumcreek Township. Galli, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at the scene for unknown injuries.

6:45 p.m. Friday — A 20-year-old woman reported that a male she knows inappropriately touched her in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police, who did not identify any suspect, said they are investigating the case as a possible indecent assault.6 a.m. Dec. 20 — A small but unspecified amount of marijuana was found at Routes 422 and 388 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

Sunday — Police reported they are investigating the burglary and theft at the old Hovis truck garage on Cranberry Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. The unknown burglar made off with all of the electrical wiring from the building. Police believe the crime happened between December 2007 and December 2012.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-662-61627:35 a.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Larry F. Wolbert Jr., 40, of Grove City broadsided a car at Route 258 and Jervis Road in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Police cited Wolbert for a stop sign violation. Robert L. McCloskey, 53, of Slippery Rock was driving the pickup.Neither driver was hurt; however, both their vehicles had to be towed way.3:25 a.m. Jan. 22 — A car driven by John C. Williams, 36, of New Castle ran into the side of a pickup on Route 208 as he pulled out of the parking lot of the Country Fair store in Springfield Township. Police cited Williams for improperly entering or crossing a road.Edward J. Bubenheim, 62, of Volant was driving the pickup.

Friday — About $200 worth of compact discs, comic books and stickers were allegedly stolen from 135 Harvard St.2:50 p.m. Thursday — Police are investigating an attempted retail theft at the BP gas station on West Main Street.A man fled the station after he was caught trying to steal $5 worth of merchandise.Anyone with information is asked to call Grove City police at 724-458-7925.1:50 p.m. Thursday — Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred in the Steigerwald's parking lot off Limberg Way.The accident caused damage to the bumper of a parked car. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
