Car hits pole, 4 teens hurt

MCKEES ROCKS — Authorities say four teenagers were injured, three of them critically when their car crashed into a telephone pole.

Officials in Allegheny County said the crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday in Robinson Township.

Township police chief Dale Vietmeier said five 16-year-old boys were in the car, and four were taken to Allegheny General Hospital.

Vietmeier said three were listed in critical condition while the fourth was treated and released.

Two of the teens were thrown from the vehicle. Police are investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors.

Paramedics take cover as shots fired

PITTSBURGH — Paramedics responding to a woman hit by a car had to take cover when shots rang out from a nearby Father’s Day cookout in Pittsburgh.

Police said at least one man was wounded, shot in the thigh Sunday about 9:30 p.m.

Police spokesman Sonya Toler says paramedics weren’t hurt, but were nearby when the shooting broke out in a park.

Witnesses said hundreds were gathered for the annual event when two groups of men began arguing and shots were fired.

Police are hoping witnesses will help them find whoever fired the shots.

The one confirmed victim was in stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital.
