Metcalfe calls for Wolf's impeachment
State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, R-12th, will introduce a resolution calling for the impeachment of Gov. Tom Wolf.
“His actions plainly constitute the misbehavior in office required for his impeachment under the Pennsylvania Constitution,” Metcalfe argued in a memo released Friday morning.
Circulated to other state representatives Friday, Metcalfe's memorandum said Wolf's business-closure and stay-at-home orders violated “a number of our God-given rights affirmed in the United States Constitution.”
The representative, whose district includes Adams, Cranberry and Middlesex townships, said the orders constituted a “taking of property” from business owners without adequate compensation and argued Wolf violated Pennsylvanians' First Amendment rights.
During a news conference Friday, Wolf responded to Metcalfe's resolution.
“I'm, again, not a lawyer, but I can't wait to see the legal arguments that might be forwarded in that case,” he said.
Metcalfe's memo also criticized Wolf's handling of the business waiver process, which he considered “arbitrary and capricious,” and lacking in transparency. He further argued the governor failed to administer an adequate unemployment compensation system and accused Wolf of failing to protect nursing home residents.
