Raiders stun USC in PIHL playoffs
A three-goal second period sparked Seneca Valley's hockey team to a 5-2 upset of Upper St. Clair in Tuesday's PIHL Class 3A quarterfinal playoff at Ice Castle Arena.
Ryan Russell and Chris Belt both scored twice and C.J. Phillips added one tally in the victory.
Robbie Halyama stopped 22 shots for SV.
The Panthers were the No. 2 seed while SV is No. 7 in the eight-team tournament.
The Raiders (12-7) will play Peters Township (15-6) in a semifinal at 9 p.m. March 12 at Robert Morris University's Island Sports Center.
North Catholic 3, South Park 2 (OT) — Dominic Dezort scored just 29 seconds into overtime to hand North Catholic this victory in a Class 1A quarterfinal playoff at Lemieux Sports Complex.
The Trojans trailed 2-1 after the second period, but received the tying goal from Quinten Shaffer with just 3:23 left in regulation.
Jonathan Felouzis tallied North's first goal, which tied the game at 1-all early in the second period.
Chris McFayden stopped 21 shots for the Trojans (18-2), who will meet Thomas Jefferson (20-1) in the semifinals at 9 p.m. Tuesday at Island Sports Center.
