Seneca Valley School District officials know the coronavirus pandemic is affecting students emotionally.

With district buildings closed for the rest of the school year, faculty and staff want to especially support district seniors as the time to graduate approaches.

Partnering with the Seneca Valley Foundation, the district is providing yard signs for students in the Class of 2020.

The signs identify SV’s Class of 2020 as “Proud and Strong” with a design created by Jonah Pontzius, who is a member of the Class of 2018. Faculty, administrators, school board members and the foundation trustees will deliver about 600 signs to students.

Delivery and installation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday around the district. District officials are encouraging students to step outside and say hello while practicing social distancing.

The Pennsylvania State Police announced Monday the cancellation of upcoming youth camps, including Camp Cadet, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“This decision was made with the health and safety of all attendees, staff, and community partners in mind. We look forward to resuming the programs in 2021,” said Col. Robert Evanchick, commissioner of the state police.

State police volunteers coordinate dozens of youth camps and events each summer across the state, including 27 weeklong sleepaway Camp Cadet programs, for children ages 12 to 15; a Commissioner’s Honor Camp, for outstanding teens selected from previous Camp Cadet attendees; State Police Youth Week, in partnership with the American Legion and National Guard; and 12 Sunny Day Camp programs, which are one-day events for children and adults with special needs or disabilities and their families.

Any payment received at the sheriff’s office check-in station at the county government center on April 30 or postmarked April 30 will receive the discounted rate.

Mailed payments must be addressed to Butler County Treasurer, P.O. Box 1208, Butler, PA 16003.

Online payments can be made at butlercountypa.gov by clicking the “payments” button on the homepage.

Payments made after the April 30 deadline will not be processed and returned to the sender, said Diane Marburger, county treasurer.
