On Monday, police continued looking for a motive into the late Sunday night shooting of a home in the 800 block of West Penn Street. While no one was hurt, Butler police said they have a suspect.

Three adults and two young children were in the two-story rental home at the time of the shooting. Investigators report the house was hit multiple times shortly after 11:15 p.m.

Police would not identify the suspect, but said the individual voluntarily came to the station for an interview Monday afternoon.

“The shooting is still under investigation but he's the only suspect we have right now,” said police Capt. Jim Hollobaugh.

About 30 minutes into the interview, police said it was too early to say if an arrest was imminent. Authorities said at least four calls came into the 911 center at or around 11:19 p.m. reporting five or six gunshots fired.

One of the calls was from the targeted house, Hollobaugh said.

A 30-year-old woman and her two children, an infant and a 7-year-old, live at the home. They were there along with the woman's 34-year-old boyfriend and her 63-year-old father.

The caller from inside the house reported to 911 dispatchers that everyone was on the floor, taking cover.

Hollobaugh said officers later recovered five .40-caliber bullet casings from outside the home near Mercer Street. All of the casings were in the same vicinity.

One slug was recovered from the floor inside the house. Investigators believe other slugs remain hidden in the walls.

“You could tell (the house) was struck multiple times,” Hollobaugh said.

He added that the evidence indicated only one shooter was involved and that the shooter walked to the house. The gun has not yet been recovered.

According to police, all three adults who were in the targeted house are cooperating with investigators and were also formally interviewed Monday.

Police said they are also checking video-surveillance cameras in the area.
