The group of young women in line to become Miss America and Miss Teen America grew a little smaller Saturday during four pageants at the Butler County Community College Succop Theater.

The pageants featured five vying for the title of Miss Butler County/America, nine vying to become either Miss Moraine State/America or Miss Mercer County/America, six competing to become Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen/America and nine competing for the title of Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen/America or Miss Mercer County Outstanding Teen/America.

Six crowns were awarded.

In the first pageant, Amanda Pope of Slippery Rock was crowned Miss Butler County/America.

Pope, 22, is the daughter of Daniel Pope and Denice Leshnock. She is a senior at Slippery Rock University, where she is majoring in elementary education and minoring in dance. She did a jazz dance to “Fame.” Her platform was Put Down the Phone and Drive.

First runner-up was Jenna Alexandra DePizzo, 18, of Slippery Rock.

In the second pageant, Ashley Duespohl of Pittsburgh was named Miss Moraine State/America, with Maria “Brooke” Miller of Grove City as Miss Mercer County/America.

Duespohl, 22, is the daughter of Thomas and Colleen Duespohl. She is a first-year graduate student at Duquesne University, where she majors in health management services and minors in psychology. She played First Movement Sonata Pathetique on the piano. Her platform was One Miracle at a Time: Building Families Through Adoption.

Miller, 21, is the daughter of Ronald and Rita Miller. She is a junior at Grove City College, where she majors in psychology and minors in business. She sang “I Dreamed a Dream.” Her platform was Helping the Homeless in our Hometown.

First runner-up for those titles was Kristy Weber, 21, of Latrobe. Second runner-up was Juliann Marie Sheldon, 20, of New Kensington.

In the third pageant, Olivia Kappler of Butler was named Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen/America.

Kappler, 15, is the daughter of Joe and Angela Kappler. She is a freshman at Butler Intermediate High School. She sang “In My Own Little Corner.” Her platform was Reach Out to Autism.

First runner-up was Jordan Luntz, 13, of Saxonburg.In the final pageant, BreeOnna Rene Springer of Ligonier was named Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen/America, with Page Weinstein of Jefferson Hills crowned Miss Mercer County Outstanding Teen/America.Springer, 14, is the daughter of Don and Tamra Springer. She is in ninth grade at Valley School of Ligonier. She did a lyrical dance to “Make it Go Away.” Her Platform was Adopt a Family.Weinstein, 13, is the daughter of Jason Weinstein and Lori Benvenuto. She is in eighth grade at Pleasant Hills Middle School. She did a show twirling routine to “Sparkling Diamonds.” Her platform was Celebrate Our Differences.First runner-up for these titles was Susie Smithmyer, 17, of Altoona. Second runner-up was Julia Wilkins, 16, of Easton.The winners will receive scholarship awards and will advance this summer to their respective state pageants at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh. Winners of those pageants will advance to the national level.Contestants were judged on interviews, talent, onstage questions and evening wear. The Miss Outstanding Teen contestants modeled fitness clothing. Miss Pennsylvania contestants modeled swimsuits.Pageant directors were Judy Hughes and Lucy Mudrick.Emcees were Victoria Mysliwiec, 2010 Miss Butler County/America; Kristina Miller, 2010 Miss Moraine State/America; Elyse Healey, 2010 Miss Mercer County/America; Shannon McCarren, 2010 Miss Butler County Outstanding Teen/America; and Kaitlynne Kline, 2010 Miss Moraine State Outstanding Teen/America.Appearing as special guest emcees were Courtney Thomas, 2010 Miss Pennsylvania/America and Jocelyn Gruver, 2010 Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen/America.Special performances were given by Courtney Bearer, this year's Little Miss Butler County/America and Lauren Russo, Junior Miss Butler County/America.
