The Venue on Main in Butler is hosting a spaghetti dinner and raffle March 27, to raise money for the four business affected by the Jan. 30 fire on Main Street and the 12 fire departments that responded.
About 300 dinners will be available from noon to 4 p.m. at a cost of $10 each. A raffle auction and 50/50 drawing will be held virtually beginning at 5 p.m.
The Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township is in the final stages of completing its new community playground. Now it needs the public's help.Volunteer Build Day is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 27, in the YMCA's lot, adjacent to the parking lot. Volunteers will finish construction, placing the border around the mulch beds and spreading mulch.“We've been dreaming of this space for a long time and are so excited to be this close to its grand opening,” said Carrie Ohorodnyk, Cranberry YMCA executive director. “We've had so much support from our community partners, members, and donors, and we are looking forward to this final push towards the finish line.”The playground is free and accessible to members of the YMCA and community.The finished project will be celebrated with a grand opening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 on Healthy Kids Day.For more information about volunteering for the YMCA's Playground Build Day, or to contribute to the playground's building costs, contact Carrie Ohorodnyk at cohorodnyk@bcfymca.org.
A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Allegheny Valley, Exit 48, and Pittsburgh, Exit 59, interchanges will be closed from midnight Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday for a bridge removal project.The closure is needed to allow crews to remove the original Unity Trestle Road bridge, which carried traffic over the Turnpike at milepost 52.36 in Allegheny County. A new bridge was constructed beside the existing bridge and was opened to traffic in Nov. 2020.Throughout the evening before the closure, information will be posted and announcements will be made at the Oakmont/Plum service plaza to warn customers that they will not be permitted to continue driving after 11 p.m. March 27.
The Lighthouse is hosting its annual fundraising golf outing May 3.Held in memory of Bill Gumpper, the event will be from noon to 6 p.m. at the Butler Country Club at 310 Country Club Road.The outing is open to foursomes, individuals, and men and women golfers of all skill levels.The event will include golf contests, prizes, raffles and auctions.
