1 death, 28 COVID cases reported in county

More women died in state from virus

Another Butler County resident has died from COVID-19 and 28 more confirmed cases of the virus were reported in the county Friday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county death toll increased from 25 on Thursday to 26 on Friday, and the number of new cases increased from 1,157 on Wednesday to 1,185 Friday, according to a department report.

Probable cases increased from 162 to 180 and the number of negative tests also increased from 24,440 to 24,833.

Demographics released

Also Friday, the department released a report detailing the gender, race, ethnicity, age and place of death of people who died due to the virus.

Statewide, there were 1,566 new cases and 46 additional deaths, raising the totals to 179,086 and 8,457, respectively. The state recovery rate remained at 80%.

Female deaths outnumbered male deaths, 4,354 to 4,103. Deaths total 6,187 for whites, 1,707 for Blacks, 169 for Asians and 394 for multiple/other races.

According to the 2010 Census, the state's population of more than 12.5 million is 81.6% white, 12% Black and 3.8% Asian.

Deaths among older people are higher than in younger people. Fewer than five deaths were reported in each of the five age groups for people up to 24 years old.

Most deaths occurred in hospitals and long-term living facilities. Hospitals led the way with 4,320, followed by long-term facilities with 3,645, residences with 307, hospices with 181 and other places with four.
