One injured in morning crash on Route 422

SUMMIT TWP —One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident around 8:45 a.m. on Route 422 East.

Bill Mitch, 32, of Kittanning, was heading west in his Chevrolet Silverado in the passing lane on Route 422 when he attempted to turn into the parking lot of Parts Unlimited. An unidentified 18-year-old in a Chevrolet Cobalt was heading east on Route 422, also in the passing lane.

“The gray Cobalt was heading east in the passing lane at a pretty high rate of speed,” Mitch said. “As I turned into here, I thought I had plenty of time. I didn't realize how fast he was going. As I turned, he turned into the slow lane and met me head on. I spun around and he slid through the parking lot.”

The 18-year-old was injured and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by East Butler Ambulance. He was alert and talking, according to Butler State Police, which was on the scene. No other information on the severity of his injuries was available.

Mitch was not injured.

The Cobalt was totaled. The Silverado sustained severe front-end damage. The truck's cab came off and its trailer also was damaged.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. A stretch of Route 422 East was limited to one lane while emergency responders were on the scene.

Also assisting was Lick Hill Fire Department.
