Butler man charged after altercation with police

A Butler man is accused of getting into an altercation with police officers stemming from a trespassing call last week at a city home.

Jeffrey M. Lamantia, 53, is charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and defiant trespass. He is free on his own recognizance while awaiting a preliminary hearing Jan. 4.

Police were called about 9:30 p.m. Thursday for a reportedly intoxicated man who was refusing to leave the caller's home on Forscht Way. Officers found the defendant in the home and seated on an easy chair, according to charging documents.

The resident, a man, told police that he had repeatedly asked Lamantia to leave, but to no avail.

Police said Lamantia, who initially refused to identify himself, was “slurring heavily” and yelling obscenities. Officers informed the suspect that he was being arrested for trespassing.

But when police grabbed onto his arm, Lamantia pulled it away, documents said. Officers took him to the ground, and he attempted to place his hands underneath himself.

“A significant amount of force was required to take Lamantia into custody,” documents said. He was eventually taken to the police station and later arraigned.

Online court records did not list an attorney for the defendant.
