Butler man arrested after alleged violence

A Butler man was arrested for allegedly attacking a woman Thursday night.

State police Friday charged Sidney R. Snyder, 65, with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor counts of simple assault and reckless endangerment as well as a summary-level harassment charge.

Snyder was taken to Butler County Prison, where he is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail.

According to charging documents, police responded to a call at 9:45 p.m. Thursday for a domestic dispute that got physical.

Police said when they arrived, they found evidence that Snyder hit the victim in the head and face multiple times.

“Significant bleeding was observed from the fresh wounds on the victim,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.

According to documents, both the victim and defendant refused treatment for injuries, and the victim “refused” to provide a written statement.

Police said Snyder has multiple prior arrests for domestic violence. However, a search of court records shows only one case filed against Snyder involving a summary-level harassment charge in 2012.

Snyder's preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
