Free fishing derby slated May 13SAXONBURG — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host a free fishing derby for children age 14 and younger from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 13 at Saxony Farm Estate, Addy Boy Lane, Saxonburg.Concordia will provide bait, hot dogs and other refreshments, prizes and parking. Participants should take their own fishing rods. A few fishing rods will be available to borrow. All children must be accompanied by an adult.Derby volunteers will help measure fish, detangle fishing lines and teach the basics. Guests should take a lawn chair or blanket. A tent will provide shade for those who need it.Last year’s event drew almost 700 guests. Lake Saxony is fully stocked with hundreds of blue gills, bass, catfish and other fish.Registration is requested, but walk-ins will be accepted.
