Brain expert speaks in Mars April 13MARS — Paul David Nussbaum, president and founder of Brain Health Center, will speak at 2 p.m. April 13 at the Mars Public Library, 107 Grand Ave.Nussbaum is a clinical neuropsychologist and an adjunct professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.The event is free and registration is not required. Fashion show tickets availableJEFFERSON TWP — Tickets are available for the Concordia Lutheran Ministries Fashion Show May 20 at the Butler Country Club.Doors will open at 10 a.m. with lunch at 11:45 a.m. and the fashion show at 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Good Samaritan Endowment Fund, Concordia’s charity care fund.The show will include fashions from Boscov’s and Christopher and Banks.Limited seating is available. Free fishing derby slated May 13SAXONBURG — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will host a free fishing derby for children age 14 and younger from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 13 at Saxony Farm Estate, Addy Boy Lane, Saxonburg.Concordia will provide bait, hot dogs and other refreshments, prizes and parking. Participants should take their own fishing rods. A few fishing rods will be available to borrow. All children must be accompanied by an adult.Derby volunteers will help measure fish, detangle fishing lines and teach the basics. Guests should take a lawn chair or blanket. A tent will provide shade for those who need it.Last year’s event drew almost 700 guests. Lake Saxony is fully stocked with hundreds of blue gills, bass, catfish and other fish.Registration is requested, but walk-ins will be accepted.
