Woes go on for struggling Sox
BECKLEY, W.Va. — The Butler BlueSox were unable to dig themselves out of a huge hole Tuesday night.
West Virginia plated five runs in the first inning off of Butler starting pitcher Jake Stout and defeated the visiting Sox, 7-4.
Stout lasted 4 1/3 innings, but surrendered six runs (seven earned) on five hits. Butler’s defense committed five errors.
The BlueSox scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a wild pitch and a throwing error.
Ray Scala’s triple accounted for one of Butler’s six hits.
Sean Kealey and Travis Holman combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless innings for Butler.
Butler (21-36) plays at West Virginia (27-29) again Wednesday.
