Oil-leaking truck forces part of 228 to close
Police blocked off a half-mile of Route 228 from Route 8 to Park Road at midmorning Thursday after a box truck leaked oil on the pavement, causing slick conditions and a multi-vehicle accident.
Penn Township policeman Jack Ripper said four cars spun out on the slippery surface. Three crashed into one another and one careened over a hillside, but was able to drive away. There were no injuries, he said.
PennDOT trucks arrived about an hour later and dumped sand on the road so traffic could be allowed back on the busy highway. It is not known if Nicklas Supply, the owner of the truck that leaked the fluid after the driver noticed a drop in oil pressure, will be cited.
