Cadaver dog alert turns up nothing
BUTLER TWP — Police ended their two-day investigation at Butler County Community College on Tuesday when they failed to find anything of interest, authorities said.
State police and BC3 campus police were investigating a wooded area near the college where private cadaver dogs had reportedly alerted handlers when approaching a mound of construction debris Saturday evening during a training session, said Scott Richardson, BC3’s director of campus police and security.
“The investigation is complete,” Richardson said in a news release.
State troopers on Tuesday used a cadaver dog from the Butler County Search and Rescue Team to search the area, Richardson said.
Butler Township police responded to the initial call Saturday night.
The name of the organization training on the property and the exact location were not disclosed by the college.
The college’s main campus is about 300 acres, the northern portion of which is mostly wooded.
The area under investigation was described as being dense with vegetation overgrowth and having no adjacent walking trails. The site is in a remote area not near campus buildings or facilities.
Investigators closed the main gate to campus as they investigated Monday night, but no activities on campus were affected.
