Monday — Police reported they are investigating an online scam that cost a 94-year-old Center Township man $30,000.On Jan. 21, police were notified of the suspected theft. Investigators determined that an unknown suspect stole the money via gift cards through “cyberactivity over multiple occasions.”11:27 p.m. Jan. 20 — Police suspect Matthew A. Tedys, 25, of Slippery Rock, was driving under the influence when his car struck a utility pole and a ditch along Route 108 in Worth Township. He was not injured, but his car had to be towed.Dec. 30 — Sierra E. Anderson, 27, of Callery, was arraigned on charges she illegally tried to buy a handgun last year at Sportsman's Supply Company on Route 356 in Summit Township. She is accused of providing false information on a required background check form March 24, 2020, when she tried to buy a .38-caliber pistol.Anderson is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and two counts of unsworn falsification to authorities, both misdemeanors. She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.
Wednesday — Police charged an Allegheny County man with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in East Franklin Township.Jason L. Johnson, 30, of McKeesport, was pulled over around 3:25 a.m. Dec. 16 and accused of being impaired on marijuana.In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Johnson is charged with following too closely to another vehicle, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving.6:30 a.m. Jan. 20 — An unidentified vehicle struck a mailbox and damaged a fence in a hit-and-run crash on Hillside Drive just north of River Street in East Franklin Township. The unknown driver continued southbound without stopping.
