Slippery Rock schools to see PA, gym, stage upgrades
Slippery Rock Area School District is updating the public-address systems at its high school, middle school and elementary schools.
Alfonso Angelucci, superintendent of Slippery Rock Area School District, said the district had recently replaced the PA system at Moraine Elementary, and because the systems at the remaining schools are each more than 20 years old, the board decided they should be replaced as well. The district will pay Open Systems Pittsburgh a total of $131,605 for the upgrade.
The district is also updating several gymnasiums in its schools. The School Board voted at Monday's meeting to resurface the high school's stage floor and recoat its main gym, and recoat the floor in the middle school gym, at a cost of $13,600.
Angelucci said the gymnasiums see a lot of wear and tear over the years because of the physical education classes they host and the school productions and plays that take place on the stage.
“It was definitely time to update these,” he said. “(The stage) gets a lot of use from the sets placed upon it during the years, which causes some light damage, and it needs to be resurfaced.”
Also at the meeting, the School Board decided to not rent out its pavilion at Moraine State Park this summer because contractors will be performing mechanical and plumbing maintenance.
“It's going to render the pavilion unsafe, so we decided to not rent it out this summer,” he said.
