Graham Park to see major expansion as CTCC project of the year

CRANBERRY TWP — Graham Park will get a major expansion from the Cranberry Township Community Chest's project of the year.

The 2017 project will be the CTCC SportCourts at Graham Park. The group wants to raise $750,000 in donations, sponsorships and grants to build a number of new courts in Graham Park.

The project was announced today by the community chest.

The plans, which are subject to change, call for eight pickleball courts, four tennis courts, two basketball courts, three boccie courts, two shuffleboard courts, two horseshoe courts and two cornhole courts, according to a news release.

There are also plans for a community garden.

Along with the project, the township is planning phase two of development of the park, which will include a new restroom and storage building, adding new handicap parking and expanding the walking trails there.

The new courts will be built on a grassy area near the entrance to the park.

Township parks and recreation director Pete Geis said that phase two has been in the works for about 10 years. The park opened in 2008.

“It's a huge deal. The population has been growing rapidly and our facilities haven't yet matched that and this is going to get us to where we need to be,” he said.

The community chest will start raising money for the project at the Community Days, which will be held July 7 to 9 in the Community Park on Route 19.
