Charge, bail lowered for man who allegedly shot gun

SLIPPERY ROCK — A man who allegedly shot a gun in a Slippery Rock Township apartment saw his bail and one of his charges reduced at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Anthony D. Retone, 20, of New Castle, was charged with felony charges of illegally owning a gun, carrying a gun without a license and having a gun with an altered serial number as well as a misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment.

Retone's hearing was held before District Judge Bill O'Donnell, where Retone's attorney rifled through a legal book alongside Assistant District Attorney David Beichner regarding one of the charges.

The felony of illegally owning a gun stems from having previous convictions that would prohibit him from owning a gun. The offense was lowered to a misdemeanor Wednesday.

“We changed the grading, and that was based on the statute,” said Assistant District Attorney David Beichner.

Beichner said the other two felony charges remain, as well as the other misdemeanor.

Initially being held on $75,000 bail, all parties involved also agreed to lower Retone's bail to $25,000.

Despite the changes, Retone waived his right to a preliminary hearing, moving the case forward to the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.
