EVANS CITY — Adams Township Police have made an arrest in the case of a driver accused of passing a school bus as children were getting out in January.

George Dale Dicicco is charged with reckless endangerment, overtaking a school bus, evading arrest and more, and while the incident is alleged to have happened in January, Dicicco was not arraigned until September.

Police held him in the Butler County Prison until he posted his $15,000 bail.

The day of the alleged crimes, arresting officer Michael Bordt was on patrol in Adams Township when he saw a maroon Ford Ranger without an inspection sticker.

He turned around to pursue the vehicle when he saw it speed away.

Bordt lost track of the truck and called it in. Soon after a call came in to report a reckless driver operating the same maroon truck.

“The caller who was identified as James Seltzer informed dispatch that an old model Ford Ranger maroon in color passed him and about five cars going about 90 mph,” Bordt said in his report. “The Ranger then passed a school bus that was letting kids off.”

Bordt then tracked down the school bus driver who confirmed the reports and gave a rough description of the suspect.

Bordt returned to the station to review the footage and had a realization: he had stopped this vehicle before.

“I informed Sgt. (Edward) Lenz of the situation and we looked up the vehicle make, model and color in our system,” Bordt said. “The vehicle that fit the description was registered to George Dale Dicicco.”

Dicicco was a suspended driver who also was wanted on a warrant out of the Butler Count Sheriff’s office.

Bordt along with another officer had stopped Dicicco several times in the past, and Bordt knew where to find him.

“Through my past history with Dicicco, I knew that he used to be in a bowling league at Mars Lanes,” he said. “I went to Mars Lanes and spoke to Ruth Gellar.”

Gellar got Bordt in touch with Dicicco’s mother. He then met her, and she got her son on the phone to talk to the officer.

“I informed him we needed to speak about the incident that took place today,” Bordt said. “Dicicco informed me that he knew what he did was wrong.”

Bordt told Dicicco to meet him at the police station. Dicicco said he would, but he never arrived.

Police eventually located and arrested him, taking him to the Butler County Jail.

Dicicco’s preliminary arraignment was earlier this month, and he will be formally arraigned Oct. 24.
