[naviga:h3]More virus testing for nursing homes[/naviga:h3]

The state Department of Health will partner with Eurofins Central Laboratory based in Lancaster to provide more virus testing for nursing homes, as part of the Secretary of Health’s testing order.

The lab has joined the COVID-19 Pennsylvania testing program as part of Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine’s mandate that all nursing home patients be tested at least once by July 24, according to an announcement from the department. The state Department of Community and Economic Development is also partnering in the effort.

Testing will be done at no cost to the nursing homes. As of 12 a.m. July 8, statewide there were 92,148 positive cases of COVID-19 and 6,812 confirmed deaths in the 67 counties. Most of the patients hospitalized are age 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 and older.
