Neighboring Clarion County saw its first coronavirus-related death reported early Saturday morning at Clarion Hospital.

"It is with a heavy heart that we report our first COVID-19 death at Clarion Hospital," Clarion Hospital President Steven Davis told The Derrick.

Davis also told the Oil City newspaper the hospital declined to provide further details about the county's first death out of respect for the patient's family, but added that the hospital staff's deepest sympathy and condolences went out to the family.

BHS spokeswoman Jana Panther confirmed the death in her Saturday morning media update. Additionally, the hospital saw its inpatient numbers go from six on Friday to 11 Saturday.

Additionally, neighboring Beaver County saw a spike in the number of COVID-19 deaths overnight, going from 15 reported deaths Friday to 31 reported today for a total of 16 new deaths. Mercer County also saw its first death due to the virus.
