Mayor asks Butler residents, churches to participate Bells Across Pennsylvania

Butler Mayor Ben Smith has issued a proclamation asking residents and churches to participate in Bells Across Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.

The event is meant to recognize medical personnel, essential businesses that have remained open and their employees, first responders and other hometown heroes for serving on the front lines as the coronavirus pandemic plays out.

Residents and churches are asked to ring bells, bang on pots and pans, or otherwise make noise for three minutes to support the hometown heroes and show solidarity with other Pennsylvanians battling the pandemic, and to demonstrate determination that the virus will be conquered and businesses will reopen.

The Butler Township Commissioners issued a similar proclamation last week and are asking residents to participate.
