Smolic shines in Freeport win
Macy Smolic totaled a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds as Freeport’s girls basketball team picked up a key Section 1-AAA victory by defeating Knoch 55-43 Thursday night.
Zoe Soilis added 15 points for the Yellowjackets (7-7, 4-3) and Haley Connor scored 13.
Allie Megahan led the Knights (2-11, 2-5) with 12 points.

SwimmingFreeport junior Bria Otwell broke her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming the event in a first-place time of one minute, 2.27 seconds in a 78-68 loss to Shady Side Academy’s girls.Otwell also placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.62) and Zoe Pawlak took the 100 backstroke (1:02.68).Both swimmers teamed with Becca Dudek and Mykenzie Farneth to win the 400 freestyle relay at 4:00.51.In the boys’ meet, Freeport’s Tyler Ben won the backstroke (1:03.88), but the Yellowjackets fell 85-58.
