Fighting addiction
Regarding Wednesday’s article, “An Ode to Joy.” I cannot express enough thanks to all of the individuals and groups that came together the evening of Feb. 6 at the Succop Theater to help make BC3’s “Reset Your Brain” kick-off event an uplifting and hope-filled evening. There are too many people and groups to list individually. Some of those individuals and groups work courageously behind the scenes every day to help those who struggle with opioid addiction, some provide continued support to friends and family members, some joyfully share their endorphin-producing talents, some serve as advisers to the continual birth of the “Reset Your Brain” initiative, and some are BC3 employees and administration, including President Nick Neupauer. My cup overflows with gratitude. Your generosity is proof that there is always hope.
If we come together as a community, we can make a difference in this opioid epidemic. We can create a system where love and light opens up opportunities to those that struggle in darkness. It’s going to take a lot of collaboration and looking at opioid addiction with “new eyes.” As Albert Einstein said, “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” The solution is endorphins. It should become the new buzz word in our community. Endorphins, endorphins, endorphins.
The Feb. 6 event at BC3 was only the beginning. BC3 is moving forward with our “Reset Your Brain” initiative to offer classes to the community in an effort to educate the public on what happens to the brain in addiction, change the dark stigma of addiction, and begin to help those who struggle with opioid addiction. Because of a few generous donors, the first round of classes are free but registration is required. Classes will be held at the United Way and The Art Center downtown in Butler on Tuesday evenings starting on April 3. Additional classes may be added depending on the needs and situations of participants.

I would be remiss not to thank Steve Treu, whose therapy and wisdom totally changed my outlook and provided hope and light where once only darkness and despair existed. Please join us in this journey to help Butler become an example of recovery and hope.
