Cranberry Twp man dies in crash on I-79

CRANBERRY TWP — A 23-year old man died Saturday when he lost control of his car and rolled over on Interstate 79 near Route 228, authorities said.

State police said Daniel E. Weaver of Cranberry Township was traveling north shortly after 5 p.m. when he tried to change lanes.

Witnesses told investigators the car was apparently speeding and weaving in traffic moments before the crash at the Ehrman Road overpass.

Weaver's 2002 Mercury Cougar went off the east side of the highway and rolled over several times. He was thrown out the driver's side door as the vehicle repeatedly overturned.

Police said Weaver was not wearing a seat belt. Emergency crews found his body lying on the road in the right lane. The car ended on its roof.

Butler County Coroner William Young III pronounced him dead at the scene. He died of massive injuries but no autopsy was done.

Standard toxicology testing is pending, but Young said there were no immediate indications that drugs or alcohol were factors in the wreck.

The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Department, township police and Cranberry Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home in Mars is handling funeral arrangements.
