CRANBERRY TWP — A township man is facing DUI charges after allegedly being involved in two car accidents in the matter of a few minutes.

According to court documents filed Wednesday, Michael S. Blechman, 77, faces two misdemeanor DUI charges, a misdemeanor charge of causing an accident involving damage to a vehicle and other traffic offenses in the incident which occurred May 12.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a report of an accident in the area of Powell and Rochester roads in Cranberry Township. Soon after, dispatchers received a report of a second accident in the area of Powell Road and Village Drive.

A person at the first accident told officers a red Honda CRV had struck his vehicle while making a right turn onto Powell Road. Both drivers pulled over, but when he approached the CRV, it sped away.

Officers responded to a second accident scene about a half-mile away, where they found the CRV and the driver being attended to by medical personnel. The driver, identified as Blechman, was taken from the vehicle via a stretcher and placed in an ambulance for treatment, the complaint states.

Blechman smelled of alcohol and had watery and bloodshot eyes, and he allegedly said he had consumed alcohol, according to the complaint. A blood test reportedly showed Blechman’s BAC as 0.192 percent.

Analysis of the accident scenes indicate Blechman allegedly struck the vehicle on Powell Road heading north and left the scene without exchanging information. He failed to negotiate a curve in the road and traveled left of center, striking a fire hydrant and light pole at the intersection of Village Drive. He appeared to attempt to re-enter the correct lane and spun out, causing the vehicle to overturn before striking a tree and landscape boulders, rolling back over and coming to rest on a brick sign.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge David Kovach is scheduled for July 27.
