County continues to add virus cases

Butler County continues to add new COVID-19 cases while neighboring Allegheny County issues more mitigation measures.

According to Friday's report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Butler County added 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 to its total, which is now 295. The county was also noted to have 35 probable cases that are awaiting results.

Friday marks the first report listing Butler County's daily addition of confirmed cases has reached double digits since the Department of Health altered the way it recorded COVID-19 statistics in early June.

In a Department of Health news release Friday, Allegheny County also received special attention as its total COVID-19 cases grew by 166 overnight.

On Thursday, Allegheny Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen announced Allegheny County would pursue additional mitigation measures to try to stop the spread of coronavirus cases.

The new order called for a one-week closure of bars, restaurants — although takeout is still available — and casinos and the cancellation of all activities or events over 25 people for that same one-week period.

Bogen also recommended a voluntary stay-at-home protocol for residents of the county.
