Driver hits side of Jefferson Street building

An elderly Penn Township woman overshot a parking space today and crashed into the side of a vacant doctor's office at 216 Jefferson St.

She was not injured in the accident that left a gaping hole in the side of the building facing North Church Street at about 1:30 p.m.

The woman's 2000 Cadillac Deville had to be pulled from the interior of the structure using tow cables, but there appeared to be only minimal damage to the hood and grill area of the car.

The vehicle's airbags were not deployed in the accident.

Dr. William DiCuccio owns the damaged property, which had been unoccupied since May 20, according to a notice posted at the site.

The driver was parking her car for a hair appointment when the accident occurred, according to a police officer on the scene.

The salon shares the same address with the former medical office.

The Butler City Police and Butler Fire Department responded to the accident.

Firefighters turned off electricity and gas supplied to the damaged portion of the building, after it was determined that an electrical hazard was present, said Nick Ban, Butler Fire Chief.

The former tenant of the property was Central Cardiovascular Associates, a practice directed by Dr. Arshad Mahmood. The medical office relocated to 127 Oneida Valley Road in May.
