April 3 — Police charged an Allegheny County man with assaulting a woman last month at a Greenview Gardens apartment. The victim told police that the defendant, Sheldon L. Hile, 23, of Allison Park, slapped her several times in the face, according to charging documents. The woman suffered swollen lips, which were also cut, police said. Hile is charged with simple assault.

April 2 — Melissa D. Gamble, 42, of Butler, was charged with lying to police last month when she told them she was a victim of a carjacking in the area of East Cunningham Street. She claimed March 27 that a male had taken her car, and police issued a be-on-the-lookout for the vehicle.

During the investigation, police spoke to a witness, who reported seeing a woman, believed to be the defendant, earlier drive a car into a utility pole near the Rite Aid on South Main Street and drive away, according to court documents.

Police subsequently confronted Gamble with the information, documents said, and she admitted to making up the story for “various personal reasons.”

Later, police found the car parked on East Jefferson Street. The vehicle had front-end damage that was consistent with it hitting a pole, police said.

Gamble is charged with false reports to law enforcement authorities and hit-and-run.

Police noted that while speaking to the man, he was bleeding from his lower lip. He also had scratches along his neck and a gash on the forehead. Additionally, his shirt was ripped.

Emerick was arraigned on a charge of simple assault, and she later was released after posting $2,500 bail.
