An 18-year-old Seneca Valley School District student was placed into the county Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program Tuesday after being charged with having knives in his vehicle while on school property.

Jacob P. Thomas, 18, of Cranberry Township was placed into the program with 1 year of probation by President Judge Thomas Doerr, on charges of misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school property and disorderly conduct. He was also ordered to pay court costs and complete 150 hours of community service.

Thomas was charged by Jackson Township police after an incident on Nov. 15 at the Seneca Valley Senior High School in Harmony, when police said he was found in possession of four knives in his vehicle.

The criminal complaint said the school resource officer was contacted by administration officials to respond to the vo-tech/co-op lot. When the officer arrived, administration officials reported that during the course of conducting random weekly drug testing, Thomas was found to have adulterated his drug test, which led to the search of his vehicle.

The school nurse reported that when Thomas submitted his sample, the temperature strip indicated an “unacceptably low temperature,” and because of that the search was conducted “due to the extent of Jacob's premeditated plan to adulterate the drug test,” the document states.

Also in the car, school officials found a lock pick set, vape products and a lighter, according to the document.

Police said Thomas admitted to possessing the knives in the vehicle “for protection when he goes to work,” according to the document.
