Unofficial numbers show Kessler wins Lancaster Twp. nomination
By a nearly 20-percentage point margin, the Lancaster Township supervisors race Tuesday went to Greg Kessler.
Kessler, who could not be reached for comment, won the race with 347 votes to former supervisor John Meyer's 238 votes, according to unofficial returns on the county's website.
The winner of the race will advance to the November general election as the Republican Party's nominee, and will likely face no Democratic opposition. Kessler, if ultimately elected to the role, will replace current supervisor Kris Kniess, who did not file for reelection.
Although the ballot incorrectly identified the election as being for a four-year seat, and Kessler filed for a four-year term, that has no impact on the outcome of the vote, county solicitor Wil White said Monday.
White said candidates run for positions, not for terms, so unless there are two separate terms for which candidates could file — in this case, there was only one — the printing of a term length on a ballot makes no difference.
Meyer did not return a request for comment Wednesday.
