Trade show expects more than 100 groups

GC Chamber event is Saturday

GROVE CITY — The Grove City Trade Show will celebrate its 20th year Saturday.

The Grove City Chamber of Commerce organizes the event, which is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grove City College's Physical Learning Center.

Beth Black, executive director for the chamber, said the event usually draws around 100 vendors each year even more visitors.

She said the event introduces visitors to companies they may not have seen or heard about before, and they can find some discounts too.

She said the event has a reputation for bringing a variety of vendors into the mix.

“We'll have people like contractors, nursing home facilities, banks, non-profits and many others from the surrounding area,” Black said.

“Surrounding area” includes some Butler County businesses and organizations.

The Alpha Omega Center has locations in Slippery Rock and New Castle. Sarah Bowen, center executive director, said the privately funded organization provides free medical services to the community. These services include pregnancy testing, ultrasound scans and parenting education. She said the center also deals with sexually transmitted infection information and treatments.

“It's for anyone who has a need,” Bowen said. “We don't need proof of income, and all of our services are free of charge.”

Bowen said they chose to participate in the Grove City Trade Show because of its reputation for drawing crowds.

“They have a tremendous attendance,” Bowen said. “It's pretty positive for us.”

Kathy Hinds of Grove City works in direct sales of Tupperware for 40 years. She said she has attended the trade show and even the same booth for many years.

“When people come looking for Tupperware, they know where to come find me,” she said.

She said in addition to selling their wares, vendors are encouraged to do conduct giveaways and door prizes. She said that in the past visitors have won gift cards, TVs and other prizes related to the vendors' trades.

“I think people look forward to it every year,” Hinds said. “If you're looking for something specific, you'll probably find it there.”
