Clay Twp. man arraigned on charge of taking ATV

A Clay Township man is accused of stealing an all-terrain vehicle last year in the township.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Wednesday arraigned Lincoln P. Madigan, 27, on a felony charge of theft. He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond following arraignment.

State police obtained an arrest warrant July 10 for Madigan in connection with the investigation. Police said the victim reported the defendant took the Yamaha quad Aug. 29, 2019, from his home on Webb Road.

The victim told police that he and Madigan previously had entered into a deal in which the defendant could take the ATV if he cut wood for the owner.

According to charging documents, the victim recounted that Madigan came to his home unannounced and took the ATV. He said he later made multiple attempts to contact the suspect to ask for compensation for the vehicle, but to no avail.

He also told police that the defendant never paid him or cut any wood, in accordance with their prior deal.

Police said they subsequently called Madigan, who agreed to come to the barracks for an interview Feb. 13. But he did not show up.

Attempts to contact the suspect at his home Feb. 26 and May 9, documents said, also proved unsuccessful.

Online court records did not list an attorney for Madigan.
