Butler Transit adopts internal control policy

Butler Transit Authority adopted an internal control policy required by the state during its Tuesday meeting.

Authority board members unanimously voted to adopt the prevention of waste, loss and misuse of funds policy.

Rebecca Black, authority solicitor, said the policy was created by the Federal Transit Administration and adopted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which required the local authority to adopt it as well.

She said the intent of the policy is to ensure that authority staff members use internal controls, which are already in place, to monitor operations and prevent waste, loss and misuse of funds.

In other business, the authority also sold two out-of service buses through an online auction after a museum turned down the donation of the buses.

One bus was sold for $2,025 and the second one for $1,750, John Paul, authority executive director, reported to members.

He said the sale was held after a museum turned down the authority's donation because it didn't have enough room to display the vehicles.

Both diesel-fueled buses were no longer in use. One bus was made by Gillig and was one of that last of its type made in the country and had wooden floors, Paul said.
