2019 election process gets rolling next week multiple municipal posts are up for grabs
Because 2019 is an odd number, this year's primary and general elections will elect county, school board, city, township and borough officials.
The only noncounty election this year will be for a judge of the Superior Court.
All three county commissioner seats are up for grabs in 2019. The county commissioners serve a four-year term.
The three sitting commissioners, Leslie Osche, Kim Geyer and Kevin Boozel, have announced their candidacy for the 2019 election, but like all candidates, cannot file their paperwork with the county bureau of elections until Tuesday. That is the first day all candidates can circulate and file nomination petitions for a seat.
Other county four-year terms that will be filled in 2019 are district attorney, county treasurer, prothonotary, recorder of deeds and register of wills/clerk of orphans court, according to elections bureau documents.
In the county's school districts in which board members are elected at-large, five seats each will be available in Butler, Freeport, Karns City, Mars, Moniteau and South Butler.
In the Seneca Valley district, seats are open in Regions 2, 3, 6 and 7. In the Slippery Rock district, two seats are available in Regions 1 and 3, and one seat in Region 2.
School board members serve four-year terms.
In the Butler City Council race, two of the four seats are available. The city treasurer seat also is open. Both are four-year terms.
In Butler Township, three of the five commissioners seats are up for grabs. Township commissioners serve a four-year term. The tax collector, which is a two-year term, is also available in the upcoming election.
The documents show that 32 of the county's 33 townships have one supervisor seat up for grabs in 2019. Adams Township voters will elect two supervisors, who serve six-year terms.
Two elections for two-year supervisors seats, in Buffalo and Clinton townships, will also be included on the ballots there.
Three mayors will also be elected in the county — in Fairview, Petrolia and Portersville boroughs.
Regarding the 23 borough councils countywide, Portersville will elect four council members to four-year terms and one to a two-year term.
Other boroughs electing four council members are Harmony and Slippery Rock. All eight individuals will serve a four-year term.
Callery, Chicora, Mars, Saxonburg, West Liberty and Zelienople voters will see three council seats on the ballot for four-year terms.
Bruin, West Sunbury and Prospect will elect three council seats to four-year terms and one seat to a two-year term in 2019.
Harrisville voters will notice three four-year seats and two two-year seats on their ballots.
East Butler, Eau Claire, Seven Fields and Valencia will elect two council members to four-year terms.
Cherry Valley and Connoquenessing will elect two four-year council and two two-year council members.
Evans City and Karns City seats available are two four-year terms and one two-year term.
Constables, tax collectors and auditors will also be elected in many municipalities.
