Police cruiser hits Main St. restaurant
A police vehicle heading to an accident scene at Center Avenue crashed into the front of a Main Street restaurant Wednesday night, police said.
According to Butler Penne restaurant owner Bill Atkinson and eye witness accounts, a vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Main and Jefferson streets. To avoid a collision with that vehicle, the officer was forced to turn toward Penne. The airbags for the vehicle didn’t deploy, and the officer was not injured.
“No one was in the building at the time,” said Atkinson, who added equipment appeared undamaged.
Inside, glass was scattered across the floor and the lower section of the storefront was demolished.
Building co-owner Joe Gray reported no structural damage. The police vehicle was removed by a tow truck around 10:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported in the one-car crash on Center Avenue.
