2 women hurt in crash along Route 38

Two women were injured, one seriously, when their car crashed nearly head on into a large tree stump this morning along Route 38 in Oakland Township, authorities said.

State police are investigating but they did not release the women's names.

Oneida Valley volunteer firefighters had to cut off the passenger side door to reach the passenger, who had neck and back injuries, crews said.

She was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Capt. Ken Blatt of the Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department said her injuries were serious but not life threatening.

The driver suffered less serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.

The car, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was southbound shortly after 11 a.m. when it went off the road near Randy & Bob's Carstar and traveled about 250 feet through a home's yard before hitting the stump.
