Girl, 9, victim of Sunday night crash heading

A 9-year-old girl died in the Sunday night crash on Route 422 in Clearfield Township, according to authorities.

The name of the child and others involved in the accident have yet to be released. A message to state police about releasing the name of the child was not returned by press time.

According to the Butler County Coroner's office, an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 5:44 p.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a Ford F-350 and a Honda Civic in the eastbound lane of Route 422.

According to state police, the Ford F-350, which had been pulling a utility trailer full of corn, had slowed down to make a left turn into a driveway. Police said the Honda slammed into the trailer.

Police said neither of the two people in the F-350 were injured. Police said the Honda's driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Police said it is believed both the girl and the driver were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

State police were at the scene investigating and reconstructing the crash for nearly five hours. Crews cleared the scene around 12:38 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters stopped traffic completely between the intersection of Moran Road and Clearfield Road for the duration of the investigation.
