Cranberry Twp. gets grant for N. Boundary roundabout

CRANBERRY TWP — The state Department of Transportation on Monday announced that the township will receive a $286,199 grant for a new traffic roundabout on North Boundary Road.

The money comes from a pool of $5.5 million collected from automated red light enforcement in Philadelphia.

The township typically applies for grants every year and officials expected to hear about them in November, but the announcement was delayed this past year by the state budget impasse, said assistant township manager Duane McKee.

The township supervisors in April awarded a contract for $1.02 million for improvements to the intersection of North Boundary and Marshall roads, including building a roundabout and adding sidewalks. The work will be done this summer.

The township will pay for the project from the grant and from traffic impact fees, McKee said.

The township also has received a $50,000 grant from PennDOT’s Green Light Go program.

The money will fund the installation of adaptive traffic signal system software that adjusts signal timing based on traffic conditions at the intersections of Route 19 with Cranberry Square Drive, Short Street and St. Francis Way.

The township will provide matching funds for that project.
