Mary L. Vero, 96, formerly of North Elm Street, Butler, passed away Monday at Fair Winds Manor in Sarver.

Born in Butler, June 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Concetta Allen Bello.

She was a homemaker.

She and her late husband, Michael, opened Vero's Market on North Elm Street in 1958, and — along with her son and daughters — after Michael's passing operated the store until December 1977.

Mary derived great joy in her wonderful baking and cooking, but to her, the real joy was sharing it with family and friends.

She was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, Fred M. Vero and his wife, Debbie, of Butler; three daughters, Mary Mason and her husband, Lee, of Sarver, Patricia Davis and her husband, Walter, of Butler and Michele Francestine and her husband, Ernie, of Butler; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Paula) Mason of Sarver, Mary Bridget Whissinnand of Sarver, Kim Vero-Lynn of Butler, Christy (Erik) Beach of Sarver, Erin Vero of Butler, Michael (Mary Cate) Mason of Butler, Dr. Michael Vero and his fiancee, Dr. Jodie Doebert, of Butler and Ernie C. Francestine of Butler; one step-granddaughter, Mindy (Tim) Zielinski of Cranberry Township; one step-grandson, Spencer (Christine) Davis of Grove City; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jack Mason of Sarver, Cody, Tyler and Mason Whissinnand of Sarver, Grace Marie Beach of Sarver and Michael and Kieran Mason of Butler; five step-great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Dori, Isaac and Maggie Zielinski of Cranberry Township and Ashley Davis of Grove City; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Mrs. Samuel) Vero of Butler and Sara Jane (Mrs. Leonard) Vero of Butler; one brother-in-law, Harold (Vivian) Pacifico of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P. Vero in 1967; two brothers, Thomas Bello and Samuel Bello; and two sisters, Rose Pintell and Lillian Giunta.

<B>VERO </B>— Friends of Mary L. Vero, who died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.The Women's Council of St. Peter will meet at 10:40 a.m. Thursday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
