Eighteen-month-old Clara Haney has her candy bucket ready Tuesday night at the Zelienople Halloween Parade.

After trick-or-treating at local businesses for about two hours Tuesday night, costumed children lined Zelienople's Main Street for the annual parade.

Clara Haney, 18 months, had a lot of fun, according to her grandmother, Cindy Haney of Harmony.

“She had a great time,” Cindy Haney said. “For her first trick-or- treat, I think she liked it.”

The parade drove down the middle of Main Street. All the parking spots were blocked by traffic cones, making them ideal candy-dropping zones.

Little Clara danced along as did some others in the route.

Cindy Haney said having the parade directly after a non-traditional trick-or-treating was a good experience.

“I thought the parade was nice,” she said. “You knew it was safe for the kids, and it was a well thought out idea for sure.”

Brad Hall of Fombell and his son, Isaac, 3, dressed alike as construction workers.

Isaac said his favorite part of the experience was the candy.

Brad Hall said it was a good way to spend time with family.

“It was really family friendly,” Hall said.

Brad Hall said he liked the way Zelienople's Halloween worked, and he also liked that businesses were involved.

Before the parade, the businesses along Main Street had their own treat handouts for the children. Zelienople's residential trick-or-treating is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Brad Hall said the trick- or-treating before the parade was a safer and more convenient way of handing out candy to children during a parade. He said he also liked that the whole event was over before nighttime darkness arrived.“It was different,” Brad Hall said. “A lot of businesses participated.”Jesse Moody, 13, dressed as the Green Man, and his brother, Lucas Moody, 12, dressed as an ape-man. The Fombell residents said they were most interested in the candy.Jesse said his favorite candy was Skittles. Lucas said his favorite was M & M's. The brothers said they got a lot of both.While candy was their primary interest, both brothers agreed the parade was well done.“It was cool,” Jesse said.The brothers also agreed that the favorite costumes they saw were the blow-up dinosaurs.“I saw a blow-up dinosaur that was like a skeleton,” Lucas said.
