Firefighters quickly stop house fire today
WINFIELD TWP — Firefighters this afternoon quickly doused a blaze that broke out in the second story of a home on Winfield Road.
John Hartman, fire chief of the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department, said no one was in the home, which is in the 400 block, when it started. A neighbor spotted smoke coming out of a window and called 911 at 1:48 p.m.
“There was a lot of smoke when we pulled up,” Hartman said.
Firefighters located the origin of the fire in a front bedroom upstairs.
Fire damage was limited to a table with an alarm clock and night light, he said. Some paneling was removed and there was some smoke damage.
Because of the location of the fire, Hartman suspects it was caused by an electrical problem. But a state police fire marshal has been called to help determine the cause.
In addition to Winfield, firefighters from Saxonburg, Buffalo Township and Herman helped. Butler Ambulance also responded.
